Invest in Canada for PR

You are an overseas applicant, planning to immigrate to Canada through a business immigration/investment program. Whether it’s the Provincial Entrepreneur programs, the Federal investor work permits, or the Startup Visa program.

You’ve never done business in Canada. However, the Canadian government is expecting you through these programs to create ‘significant economic benefit’. So, you’re going to come and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars creating jobs and so forth. Will you make money? Of course not! You’re going to lose money for the first few years. How to avoid this? Is there a way to use these programs and make money?

Canada PR by Investment – How to avoid losing money

How to make money or at least NOT lose money in your business immigration process to Canada? Here is a reality check. If you don’t fall into any of these categories below, then it is very likely you will blow your money and lose it by the time you are eligible for PR inside Canada:

  • *You already have existing customers inside Canada.

  • *You have regular dealings inside Canada like vendors/suppliers for exporting, importing, or selling your services.

  • *You have a local Canadian partner who is experienced in the specific industry in which you are planning to participate.

  • *Your product or service is unique and is being offered online, hence you will be able to facilitate any customers from anywhere in the world through your new Canadian branch.

  • *You have international clientele and business which can be all re-routed through your new Canadian business or branch (whether it’s trading, investment, or services) – until you are able to establish yourself in the local Canadian market.

If you don’t fall under any of these categories, you are on the road to losing money for the first 3 years of setting up your business in Canada. It’s your time to avoid this loss! Buying a Business in Canada

There is a disconnect or gap between the Canadian government’s expectations and what immigrant investors and entrepreneurs can really accomplish without wasting or losing money. The Canadian government’s expectations are high, maybe higher than what they should be. The only way to get around this is to make sure you come in strong with a plan.

How can you avoid this and what’s the plan? You don’t want to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars when there is a way of avoiding it. Of course, there is a solution. If you don’t already have the customers in Canada, or cannot re-route your existing overseas business/clientele through your Canadian business, then the only way to protect yourself is to buy an existing business through one of these options:

  • *Buy a minority stake in a company and come in as an investor

  • *Buy a majority stake in a company

  • *Buy a company outright

These companies should be in Canada, have existing market share in their respective industries, positive cash flows, and regular profit every year for at least the last 3 years.

When you buy into such a business, you are buying the ‘risk’ and ‘time’ that you would have spent trying to establish this same business. Unlike trying it yourself, you’re buying the guaranteed version (i.e., it’s a successful business already)

This is the decision you need to make:

1. Start a brand-new business or branch without any experience, clientele, or exposure in Canada and lose $200,000 to $400,000 over the first couple of years

OR

2. Buy an existing viable business, invest a bit more, but have a proven ROI (Return on Investment), and make up all the money you invested in 3-4 years approximately. Literally, with this type of investment, and minimal effort, you can immigrate to Canada for no additional cost, because your investment would have made up for all your expenses and costs.

Now you may ask – where do I start? I have no idea where or what to do for my business immigration. No problem, don’t panic!

And if you’re stuck in the Startup Visa program, and you’re wondering what this has to do with me? Here is some interesting news for you: You can buy an existing business related to the industry of your Startup, and inform IRCC that you want to fast-track your pilot project by the acquisition of a Canadian company. You’ve basically covered all your ‘significant economic benefits’ when you have a company that employs Canadians and has customers and revenue.

There is so much you can do with any of these programs, whether Provincial Entrepreneur program, Federal investor work permits, or Startup Visa, or even Self-Employed programs.

Invest in Canada for PR – An expert’s recommendation

According to our experience, the ones that spend on buying into a legitimate business, and they spend more, while doing their due diligence with the help of appraisers and lawyers get the most out of their money and don’t lose a dime but rather make money. On the other hand, the people who want to invest the least amount of money typically end up spending the most and losing the most. It’s a proven fact.

Readers be aware: Not all businesses are created equally and just because a business is for sale doesn’t mean it’s good or can be profitable. Make sure you have the right due diligence team working on your behalf.
