The Canadian government, on 17 December 2021 announced that it will be lifting the Omicron-related travel ban on 10 African countries. Along with lifting the ban, the country reimposed the Covid-19 testing requirements for the Canadian residents who are going for the short trips, so that the spread of a new variant of COVID-19, known as omicron can be prevented.

Jean-Yves Duclos, health minister of Canada, this Friday announced that it will be mandatory for all travelers whether they are residents or foreigners are required to have a PCR test to enter the borders of Canada from December 21, Tuesday. This is applicable for all the people who want to migrate in Canada country for the safety of the residents.

Last month, the government announced that travelers visiting the U.S for a period less than 72 hours are not required to produce a negative test result. These changes in the border policies of Canada are the result of a surge in the cases suffering from the new variant of Covid-19, omicron in the past week. 

It was also stated by the health minister that the capacity of Covid testing at the Canadian airports has been increased. Now the number of Covid tests that can be done in a single day is 21,000 which is almost double the number of tests conducted at the end of November, i.e. 11,000 in a single day. 

On Saturday at midnight, the controversial ban on flights from African countries came to an end. From these countries only the Canadian permanent citizens and citizens are allowed to enter but they also have to follow the strict rules and regulations.  

Jean-Yves Duclos said that concerning the current situation, this particular measure has served its purpose, and thus, as of now there is no requirement of travel.

Due to the spreading of Omicron at an alarming rate, Canada is considering harsher measures which include a ban on travel for foreign nationals and reimposing of a mandatory quarantine of 14 days while they have a negative report and are fully vaccinated. The quarantine day period will start on the day you enter to the new 14 days in which you have to stay isolated.

An individual can’t enter the state with a positive report unless it is 14 days old report and the new one which has been tested 72 hours before saying that the person is negative.
