Prince Edward Island PNP – Top 3 Programs Explained

One of the most undervalued provinces & immigration programs in all of Canada. Is this the right province for you to study, work, and/or invest?

One of the fastest nomination processing under the business immigration stream. No work experience is mandatory for international graduates to be nominated for PR by a local employer.

Access to the Atlantic Immigration Program, Provincial Nominee Program, and Express Entry. What else could you ask for?

The beautiful and small province of PEI has a PNP draw every month for skilled immigration applicants. And every 2 months, like clockwork, for their entrepreneur business immigration applicants. They even have a schedule of upcoming draws for their PNP. Who has that? Not even the Federal government or any other province has an upcoming schedule.

Which other province in all of Canada has the photo, name, phone number, and email address of the executive director of their Provincial Nominee Office? Well, PEI does. Her name is Erin McGrath-Gaudet and you can reach out to her if you have any serious concerns or issues.

That’s how transparent and organized this province is – do not underestimate it as a destination for your immigration.

We love these 3 programs as the top PR programs in Prince Edward Island.

1: The PR programs available for international students in the province.

2: The skilled worker streams which have a total of 7 sub-streams: we’ll specifically look at the programs for applicants without proof of language or who didn’t study in the province.

3: The Entrepreneur business program which has an excellent timeline and processing time for PR.

PEI International Graduates - Direct PR program

Let’s start with the direct PR program for international students in the province.

No work experience is required and no proof of language ability if you have a permanent job offer from a PEI employer, have graduated from a publicly funded PEI post-secondary program that issued a degree or diploma and have a valid Post-Graduate Work Permit, and working in a skill level job such as TEER 0,1,2,3, which is the equivalent of the old NOC 0, A, B.

In case you found a low-skilled job in TEER 4 or B, which is the equivalent of the old NOC C or D, you can still qualify but would need proof of language ability of CLB 4 – which is a very low score for anyone who has studied already inside Canada at a post-secondary level.

What if you didn’t study in the province of PEI and have found or planning to find a job opportunity there for your permanent Canadian immigration?

No problem. You have these options available to you:

Specific occupations in demand which only require a high school diploma from anywhere in the world, 1 year of work experience in the related occupation from anywhere in the world, a language exam score equivalent to CLB 4, and a full-time job offer in any of these occupations such as:

* Nurse Aides.

* Material Handlers.

* Constructions helpers or labourers.

* Light-duty cleaners.

* Labourers in manufacturing or processing operations.

* Process control and machine operators for the F&B industry.

* Industrial Butchers and meat cutters.

* Transport truck drivers.

LMIA Work Permit

What if you are not in these positions we just described?

That’s fine, if you are in the lower-skilled jobs and not in these specific occupations, if your employer can bring you inside the country on an LMIA work permit, and you work for them for minimum 6 months, then they can potentially sponsor you through the Critical Worker Stream which requires a CLB 4, 2 years work experience from anywhere in the world or direct education related to that field in the last 5 years.

And of course, if you don’t have experience for this employer but for another employer in the same occupation inside Canada on an LMIA work permit, you can still be sponsored by a new PEI employer under TEER occupation level 4 under the Intermediate Experience Stream. PEI has a solution for anyone. Literally, they’ve made so many programs available that anyone can potentially be eligible no matter from where they apply or what occupation. It’s that simple.

And for higher skill level jobs, the Skilled Worker inside PEI is as simple as any program out there – you’re working for your employer already in the province, with no minimum duration, they are happy with your language ability confirming that no language exam is required, you have valid status inside Canada, and you have 2 years work experience in this occupation from anywhere in the world.

Prince Edward Island PNP – Business Immigration Program

Last but not least is the Business immigration program of the province of PEI.

What’s so special about the PNP Entrepreneur program in this province? It’s very similar to many other province’s entrepreneur business programs that start with a work permit and conclude with a PR nomination from the province after 12 months of running your business inside the province. This is why we like this program and believe it’s one of the top programs for Canadian PR for entrepreneurs:

A: You will receive a nomination certificate within 3-4 months, which is one of the fastest in Canada. In other provinces it could take about 6 months or more.

B: If you work and live in the main city of Charlottetown, the PEI PNP office will literally be 1 or 2 blocks away from you – meaning that you’ll know the PNP officers by first name. It’s a very small community and very supportive of anyone planning to reside there.

C: No post-secondary education is mandatory.

D: Proof of language score is only an equivalent CLB4 in either English or French. If you studied in a post-secondary program that was taught completely in English or French, you can claim points and eligibility under the language exam scoring matrix without submitting a language exam.

E: If you have a community endorsement letter, you are almost guaranteed to be invited if you meet the minimum eligibility criteria of the program.

F: It’s a minimum investment of $150,000 and lots of flexibility in terms of what you spend 50% of this amount on.

G: Run the business for 12 months and after submitting your post-landing report, get ready for that quick PR nomination.

H: The PNP website even has a database of listed businesses in the province that are available for sale and eligible for the PNP Entrepreneur – no other province has taken this initiative which I think makes it much simpler and painless for a potential entrepreneur to go through this process, if they wish to purchase an existing business instead of starting from scratch.

I: They have local contacts in PEI on behalf of the government also called the ‘Business Navigator’ who help local business owners in the province. An actual human being helping you with your business – wow…. that’s mind-blowing! You can’t find that in any other province.

Prince Edward Island PNP Disadvantages

Of course, every program has its drawbacks and some disadvantages. Here are the areas of improvement we think PEI should look into which we are not a big fan of:

* There is an age limitation for all its PNP programs, restricting it to the ages of 18-59.

* For some applicants, this may be a challenge. It is a 100% employer-driven program for skilled immigrants. So, you cannot immigrate to this province for your PR if you are not employed by a local company or start a business as an entrepreneur.

* The PNP fees for the skilled immigration stream cost $300 per applicant.

* The PNP business Entrepreneur stream costs $10,000 – being the highest anywhere in Canada. But we think it’s worth it if you’re looking for a smooth transition to your PR.

It is still considered one of the most pro-immigration provinces in all of Canada, also being the smallest province in the whole country. I highly recommend it for anyone who is looking for peace of mind, no surprises, 100% support from the local PNP office and community, and health & safety.
